21-22 October 2014 Conference „The interlink between MSFD and MSP”, Riga
Organised by LIFE+ Biodervisity Project „MARMONI”

The conference on "The interlink between MSFD and MSP" will be held in Riga, Latvia in October 21-22, 2014.

This is a joint conference of two regional projects, "Innovative marine biodiversity indicators and monitoring and assessment of conservation status of nature values in the Baltic Sea" and "Coastal and maritime spatial planning in Pärnu Bay area in Estonia and coastal municipalities of Latvia".

The objectives of the conference are to identify and analyze the relationships between Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) as well as to address MSP as a tool to implement MSFD.

16-17 October 2014 22nd BSSSC Annual Conference „Time for New Beginnings and Innovationin the Baltic Sea Region”, Jurmala

The Annual Conference gathers around 200 participants from political and administrative level (local, regional, national and EU level) as well as representatives from academia, organizations, NGOs and the private sector from the 11 countries taking part in the Baltic Sea co-operation. The conference will cover traditional BSSSC policy areas such as transport, energy and climate, culture and youth from innovative perspectives. Speakers include representatives of the EU Commission, Committee of the Regions, CBSS, CPMR, VASAB and many more.

10 October 2014 ESPON Day “What European Territory Today and Tomorrow?”, Brussels

The ESPON Day 'What European Territory Today and Tomorrow?' aims at presenting main achievements on European territorial evidence from the ESPON 2013 Programme, including a synthesis of main results.

Its purpose is three-fold:
1.To present ESPON 2013 Programme's achievements including its major projects.
2.To communicate evidence-based policy messages that address major challenges facing cities, regions, countries and Europe.
3.To show how ESPON evidence can help improve policy development adding the European context in many policy areas at the European, national, regional and local levels.

The event, being organised at the crossroads between two programming periods, will also provide a bridge to the upcoming specific objectives and new institutional arrangements of ESPON 2020.

26 September 2014 8th VASAB Conference of Ministers Responsible for Spatial Planning and Development of the BSR, Tallinn

The main focus of the Ministerial Conference is to follow the implementation progress of VASAB Long-Term Perspective, adoption of Ministerial Declaration about planning and development challenges in the region.

The 8th VASAB Conference also marks the 20th Anniversary of the first VASAB common strategic document (Tallinn Vision).

The Ministerial Conference will take place under the Chairmanship of Estonia.

Side event to the 8th VASAB Conference of Ministers Responsible for Spatial Planning and Development of the BSR

VASAB celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the first VASAB common strategic document – Vision and Strategies around the Baltic Sea 2010, agreed in the 3rd Ministerial Conference in 1994 in Tallinn. The document has played significant role for the spatial development of the whole Baltic Sea Region.

This informal meeting of VASAB family looked back to the achievements and memorable moments of the VASAB history, as well as sketched out possible future role of this cooperation network.

28 August 2014 Roundtable on Aquaculture and Maritime Spatial Planning, Malmö

Region Skåne invites you to a roundtable on Aquaculture and Maritime Spatial Planning at World Maritime University in Malmö on the 28th of August.

The roundtable will discuss the application processes for aquaculture in Sweden and in selected Baltic Sea countries and discuss the implications for MSP in this work. The discussion will be both from perspective of the industry using concrete cases and the authority and will highlight difficulties in this process.

The aim is to identify similar issues and practices and identify what and how MSP can play a role in aquaculture planning and approval processes.
