Past events related to spatial planning and territorial development in the BSR
08 January 2015 VASAB CSPD/BSR Open TROIKA meeting, Riga

The VASAB Troika meeting consists of representatives of current, former and the next chairing countries – Finland, Estonia and Poland. The task of the meeting is to prepare the meeting of VASAB Committee on Spatial Planning and Development of the Baltic Sea Region that is planned to be held on 22-23 January 2015 in Tallinn, Estonia.

4-5 December 2014 ESPON Seminar “Territories Acting for Economic Growth - Using territorial evidence to meet challenges towards 2020”, Rome

This seminar in Rome will in particular focus on ESPON 2013 programme results in relation to thematic priorities of the current Trio of EU Presidency countries, Italy, Latvia and Luxembourg. The seminar will address themes and integrated approaches that can stimulate territories, regions and cities in providing the necessary contributions to economic growth. In doing so, it will also look towards the long term future of the European territory.

27 November 2014 MSP Conference Series: 4. Coastal and Maritime Tourism, Venice

The 4th event of the Maritime Spatial Planning conference series will be dedicated to coastal and maritime tourism. It will take place on 27 November 2014 in Venice, Italy.

The conference will gather experts, industries and NGOs to discuss the coexistence of tourism and other maritime sectors in a context of increasing use of marine space.

The conference will focus especially on:
- Competition and coexistence between tourism and the other sectors;
- The specific spatial needs and challenges of the cruise industry (traffic separation schemes, scenic quality, port facilities, environmental impacts, etc.);
- The management of cumulative pressures of touristic activities in marine and coastal waters;
- The development of eco-tourism in Marine Protected Areas and the value of marine biodiversity;
- The benefits provided by MSP for the development of new touristic activities (e.g. underwater trails, surfing reserves) and the management of underwater cultural heritage.

26-27 November 2014 Funding cooperation: Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme Conference 2014, Warsaw

Launching transnational cooperation for 2014-2020 is on the agenda this autumn. Conference will look at the achievements and explore the future funding opportunities.

03 November 2014 BSR TransGovernance Final Conference, Brussels

The final event of the BSR TransGovernance project, scheduled in Brussels on 3 November, will present the key findings of the project.

The event features debates in a chain of panels with involvement of European, national, regional, local and market representatives discussing measures recommended by the project partnership to better coordinate transport policies for:
•the Baltic Sea Region as a pioneering case of macroregional cooperation in Europe,
•cross-border areas with high dynamics of passenger and trade flows,
•international multimodal transport corridors,
•intermodal terminal sites.

21-22 October 2014 Conference „The interlink between MSFD and MSP”, Riga
Organised by LIFE+ Biodervisity Project „MARMONI”

The conference on "The interlink between MSFD and MSP" will be held in Riga, Latvia in October 21-22, 2014.

This is a joint conference of two regional projects, "Innovative marine biodiversity indicators and monitoring and assessment of conservation status of nature values in the Baltic Sea" and "Coastal and maritime spatial planning in Pärnu Bay area in Estonia and coastal municipalities of Latvia".

The objectives of the conference are to identify and analyze the relationships between Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) as well as to address MSP as a tool to implement MSFD.

16-17 October 2014 22nd BSSSC Annual Conference „Time for New Beginnings and Innovationin the Baltic Sea Region”, Jurmala

The Annual Conference gathers around 200 participants from political and administrative level (local, regional, national and EU level) as well as representatives from academia, organizations, NGOs and the private sector from the 11 countries taking part in the Baltic Sea co-operation. The conference will cover traditional BSSSC policy areas such as transport, energy and climate, culture and youth from innovative perspectives. Speakers include representatives of the EU Commission, Committee of the Regions, CBSS, CPMR, VASAB and many more.

10 October 2014 ESPON Day “What European Territory Today and Tomorrow?”, Brussels

The ESPON Day 'What European Territory Today and Tomorrow?' aims at presenting main achievements on European territorial evidence from the ESPON 2013 Programme, including a synthesis of main results.

Its purpose is three-fold:
1.To present ESPON 2013 Programme's achievements including its major projects.
2.To communicate evidence-based policy messages that address major challenges facing cities, regions, countries and Europe.
3.To show how ESPON evidence can help improve policy development adding the European context in many policy areas at the European, national, regional and local levels.

The event, being organised at the crossroads between two programming periods, will also provide a bridge to the upcoming specific objectives and new institutional arrangements of ESPON 2020.
