As the environmental pillar of the EU Integrated Maritime Policy, the Maritime Strategy Framework Directive sets the goal of achieving 'Good Environmental Status' of marine waters by 2020. MSP is viewed as one of the measures to achieve this goal. But there are still a lot of unknowns, in particular in regard to the interlinkages between habitats, species (especially fish) and the impacts of human uses.

Shipping and ports are very significant for economic development. Shipping is already intense within the Baltic Sea, and forecasts predict continued growth both in terms of frequency and transport volumes, increasing the risk of accidents. In spatial terms, shipping lanes and access routes to ports are of key importance in view of the underlying linear infrastructure.

Transnational data harmonization and requirements (based on the BaltSeaPlan data model) are subject of detailed discussions within the pilot cases in PartiSEApate. This workshop will bring together INSPIRE contact points as well as the various maritime data providers throughout each country, in order to explore possible a process for making data networks compatible with each other.

Territorial Capital – concepts, indicators and policy

This event will summarise the survey on integration of the place-based approach into public policies on national, regional and local level, based on the Roadmap to Territorial Agenda EU 2020. This process was based on cooperation and the involvement of the National Territorial Cohesion Contact Points from 27 Member States and 9 regional and local stakeholders. The report from the survey will be presented during this event.


7-10 October 2013 OPEN DAYS 2013, Brussels
Including workshop “Added value of macro-regional cooperation” on 8 October

In October 2013, regions and cities will be finalising preparations for the 2014-2020 cohesion policy, rural development and fisheries programmes. The OPEN DAYS will offer EU institutions, managing authorities and final beneficiaries a chance to exchange and network on new approaches even before the new operational programmes (OPs) are implemented in 2014. Organised between 7-10 October 2013, the OPEN DAYS Brussels-based events will consist of an opening session (7 October), followed by some 101 working sessions (workshops or debates, 8-10 October). 
VASAB will be represented in workshop "Added value of macro-regional cooperation" on 8 October by Ms.Ulla Koski.
